The Upper Hand #31

During 2023, I completed a very intense 10 week YouTube course.

It was eye-opening.

Paddy Galloway is the gentlemen who runs it, a fellow Irish man and a certified YouTube genius.

I learned so much during the course but was reluctant to put much of it into action.

Paddy warned me that I was attempting to make too many different kinds of content.

He follows an 80/20 rule.

80% of your content, should appeal to 80% of your audience.

On my main YouTube channel, “EasyWithAces”, that would be online Poker highlights.

That is how I grew that channel, that is what people subbed to watch.

Then you have 20% allowance to try new things, test the waters with your current viewers and see if you can attract new viewers.

Is that what I did?

No.

I was banging two hours podcasts on there, I was banging out iconic hands in shorts, online clips, historic stories.

You didn’t know what you were going to get on my channel.

It also led to a lot of noise, I wasn’t able to work out what people enjoyed and didn’t.

I stand by “The Upper Hand” interviews and I’m convinced they are the best content I’ve made.

Of course, I could be wrong and the numbers on YouTube suggested I am.

But it’s also possible, that people who watch hyper quick edits, flashy lights and online Poker, weren’t into long interviews.

FAIR ENOUGH!

So I’ve decided to listen to Paddy, which I should have done from Day 1.

My content will be across 5 different channels from now on.

Online Poker Clips, Vlogs, Live Cash Hands, Iconic Hands and Interviews.

There’s a chance I’ll crash and burn but the noise will disappear.

I’m an only child.

I like to figure things out myself and not ask for help.

Even when I do get help, sometimes it takes me awhile to come around to listening.

Don’t be like me, listen to those who are experts.
